Hi, my name is Faz Parkar and I am enthusiastic and passionate about helping people empower themselves so that they can improve their quality of life. This early desire to help and support people and make a positive impact on their lives sparked my interest in pursuing a career in mental health. As such I offer the services below:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – I am trained in delivering evidence based psychological therapy for common mental health problems. This is informed by the latest clinical guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). This includes the treatment for the following:
In addition to this, I can offer therapy for low self esteem, perfectionism, stress management, worry and sleeping difficulties. I also have an interest in using a CBT approach to help support people with smoking cessation and returning to work. I am trained to deliver Specialist Stop Smoking Interventions as part of the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT). In addition to the Core Competencies in Helping People Stop Smoking Practitioner Training, I have also completed speciality courses in Mental Health and Smoking Cessation and Pregnancy and Smoking Cessation as part of NCSCT.
My approach involves using the evidence based treatment and adapting that to the individual in front of me, to help create an individualised approach to their treatment. I am very open to feedback from clients to help ensure they get the most meaningful gains from therapy sessions.
A typical course of therapy may last between 12 and 20 sessions, although I would complete a thorough assessment of your needs and would encourage clients to review progress after 6 to 8 sessions to help decide if it would be clinically appropriate to continue. CBT sessions are normally up to 60 minutes in duration, although some parts of treatment may require longer sessions.
Telephone/Video CBT
An individual CBT session lasting up to 60 minutes is currently charged at £100 and is delivered via telephone or Zoom Video. I currently offer sessions in the daytime on Thursday's and Fridays. Please contact me to check availability if you require evening appointments. Payment would be taken before the session. Any cancellations with less than 24 hours notice would be charged the full rate of the session.
I accept self referrals and referrals from professionals. Further costs would be incurred for assessment reports of any nature. Please enquire for further details.
I offer a completely free and no obligation 20 minute telephone consultation to discuss your needs and to see if an assessment session would be beneficial. Please mention this when contacting me before booking an appointment.
EMDR
This is another psychological treatment for PTSD, in which a healthcare
professional will help you to look at your memories of the trauma (including any associated negative thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations. EMDR aims to change how you feel about these memories
and helps you to have more positive emotions, behaviour and thoughts.
During EMDR, you will be asked to concentrate on an image connected to the traumatic event and the related negative emotions, sensations and thoughts. This is whilst using a form of Bilteral
Stimulation (eye movements, tapping or sounds). After each set of eye movements, you will be encouraged to describe what you are noticing now. This process is repeated until the level of distress is
significantly redcued.
An individual EMDR session lasting up to 60 minutes is currently charged at £100 via Zoom Video. 90 minute sessions are currently charged at £150.
Supervision
I have significant experience of supervising Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner’s within the NHS, as well as experience of supervising Senior Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner’s and High Intensity CBT Trainee’s and Qualified High Intensity CBT Therapists. If any such therapists would like to improve their knowledge and understanding of common mental health problems, the delivery of assessment and treatment interventions within their role and remit, as well as helping develop their clinical expertise, then feel free to get in touch. I am fully aware that sometimes this is not possible to achieve whilst working in a busy and challenging environment. I also offer help and support for those wishing to further develop their career within IAPT and who wish to progress onto High Intensity CBT training, and can help with supporting students who wish to apply for provisional accreditation or entry onto a high intensity training course via the KSA route. Supervision prices are currently £100 for 1 hour (video or telephone)
